Camping In Bright – Bush Camping Areas Around Bright
One of the most loved holiday activities in Australia has to be camping, and thankfully, there are a lot of great places to camp in the Bright district. Along with the much more remote camping being several kilometers away from any major towns or roads, there are many areas where camping is permitted that are fairly close to major towns, and within reach of amenities if needed.
Mountain Creek Camping Ground
This camping area is situated at the foot of Mt Bogong on Mountain Creek Road on the outskirts of Mt Beauty. There are a good handful of campsites available in the main camping area, and many more others spread out up the Mountain Creek track as well, however during the peak season, this camping area may be quite full, so if you are after some quiet camping, selecting a campsite further up Mountain Creek track may be more up your alley. Some of these campsites can be up to four kilometers away from the locked gate. The main camping area has access to pit toilets, and fresh water from Mountain Creek, plus an information board that has information on many short walks in the area, including the various tracks to the summit of Mt Bogong.
Kiewa River Camping Area
This camping area is not as maintained as other camping areas in the same area, however it is a very comfortable area to camp right beside the Keiwa River, which could be a very good drawcard for fisherman. This camping area is not as popularized as other camping areas nearby, however a small group of people do return every year to this spot due to its remoteness located directly at the very base of Mt Bogong, and the more noise free environment being relatively free of many campers. Remember to take al of your rubbish home with you, and dispose of bodily waste responsibly. (Preferably bring portable toilets)
Ovens River Camping Area
This camping area is generally quite empty, however there are campfires ready to be used, along with campfire grills for cooking. There is plenty of room for a few groups here, and as this camping area is not as heavily frequented by too many people, you can generally find room to camp here in most seasons. There are no toilets available here, so please dispose of waste responsibly (preferably bring portable toilets), and remember to bring all rubbish home with you.
Camping In Alpine National Park
Camping is permitted anywhere within the Alpine National Park that is over 200 meters away from any major road. As these are spots that you pick as you find them, you will need to remember to be responsible. If you bring it in, please bring it out.
