Four Wheel Driving In Bright

Four Wheel Driving In BrightOne of the most popular activities in Bright, and most of the surrounding areas is Four Wheel Driving. Although a good handful of the most popular 4WD tracks and routes are subjected to closure in the winter months as a means of protecting them from track damage, there are always a good handful of tracks and routes open all year round, but as such, are better suited to drier weather.

IMPORTANT! Remember that when you are planning a trip, as you will be traveling into the more remote areas surrounding Bright, you are going to want to be prepared. As some of the 4WD tracks travel into rougher sub alpine areas, mobile phone reception is not something that should be relied upon, so carrying good radios or an in car CB radio system is highly advised. A GPS is also recommended, although some research will need to be made prior to purchase or rental, to ensure that coverage is available in more remote and mountainous areas.

Maps are available in the township of Bright, and at most outdoor stores such as Rays Outdoors and Anaconda. I highly recommend getting your hands on a good contour map rather than a simple map, as this will make sure that you are well prepared for all possible eventualities.

As with all alpine environments, weather is heavily subject to change, and is extremely unpredictable. be prepared for sudden drops in temperature, sudden snowfall, fog, and storms. This area is also prone to bush fires. If you are at all concerned, please keep an eye on the Bureau of Meteorology website for up to the minute weather warnings, and contact the CFA if there is any concern with bush fires.
