National Parks Near Bright Victoria

The Bright district in Victoria is well known for its high country, amongst other things. Bright itself being located at the foot of two well known national parks, Mt Buffalo National Park, and Alpine National Park. Each of these two parks offers a completely unique experience, camping and high country accommodation, day and multi-day hikes, and many other experiences to be had.

This area of Victoria is known as being very mountainous country, with the highest peaks in Victoria, is is possible to stand on peaks that are over 1800 meters in elevation. These hikes can range from being simple day hikes that the whole family can enjoy, to the more arduous multi-day hikes.

In winter, the high country takes a completely new shape, with both national parks being major destinations for their ski resorts and world class accommodation. Two of Victorias premier ski resorts are located within the Alpine National Park, Mt Hotham Ski Resort and Falls Creek. Both resorts are highly trafficked every year with bookings required in most cases well in advance. As a bonus, most of the accommodation that is available at these ski resorts is available in the off season, which makes for cheap accommodation in the summer time that is not only comfortable, but quite classy!

Alpine National Park

This national park extends from Walhalla near Moe all the way to the NSW border near Thredbo, and covers the majority of the Victorian High Country. There are many ways to access the national park throughout Victoria including Mansfield, Moe, Whitfield, Bright and Mt Beauty, with many roads into the area including the Great Alpine Road and The Bogong High Plains road. Mt Buffalo National Park

Mt Buffalo National Park consists mainly of the very large plateau that is Mt Buffalo, and is easily accessible via Myrtleford. In winter, this area is great for snow play, and receives a large amount of traffic all year round.
