Alpine National Park

Alpine National Park rises steeply above Bright Victoria, and covers an area of approximately 646000 hectares. Stretching from Walhala near Moe in Victoria, all the way to the border of New South Wales near Thredbo, Alpine National Park contains the vast majority of the highest peaks in Victoria.
This area takes on a new shape every season, with accommodation available in the major ski resorts all year around, including Falls Creek and Mt Hotham. The bonus of this is that in Summer, cheaper rates are available in the two major ski resorts, and accommodation ranges from being very basic to being quite classy.

In winter, the extensive snow fields are the main attraction for lovers of snow sports, and cross country skiing. There are a wide variety of ski and snow resorts in the Alpine National Park, with the two that are local to Bright Victoria being Mt Hotham and Falls Creek. Both of these ski resorts offer unique runs lift access, great accommodation, and some of the best local produce available in the region.
In the warmer months, hikers and peak baggers flock to the area to climb the highest peaks in Victoria including Mt Feathertop and Mt Bogong. Wildflowers over the areas above the tree line in spring, which is quite a unique trademark of the Alpine National Park. Guided tours of the Bogong High Plains are quite popular with many high country tour operators operating in the area, each offering a unique experience. Traveling the high country on horseback is another unique experience, with many horse trails available in the area. Camping is also available on the Bogong High Plains, however national park guidelines permit camping only over 200 meters away from any main roads.
